| Steinbine Receives Wisconsin Energy Independence Fund Grant |
![]() Gov. Doyle congratulates Steinbine's V.P. Development MADISON, WI Steinbine Development, LLC, of Deerfield has been awarded a $55,000 Wisconsin Energy Independence Fund grant from the Wisconsin Department of Commerce. The company was formed in June of 2007 by Mark Steinert, Randal Mueller and Joseph Millevolte to develop new technologies that recover renewable energy from dams. Steinbine Development, LLC will use the grant to test a unique hydroelectric turbine that is small, versatile, and costs significantly less to install then conventional turbine designs. This demonstration project will be located in Rome, Wisconsin. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, undeveloped hydroelectric capacity can realistically double the current annual U.S. hydropower generation which supplies 28 million or 10% of total households with electricity, the equivalent of nearly 500 million barrels of oil per year. "We are excited to receive this influx of money. As a result of WEIFís support, Steinbine has been able to engage the world-class engineering firm Woorly-Parsons. Woorly-Parsons has international experience developing and managing power production projects to assist in substantiating our green energy initiative." This project will leverage $55,000 in private investment. The Wisconsin Energy Independence Fund was a $150 million, ten-year grant and loan program created by Governor Jim Doyle in 2008 to make Wisconsin a leader in renewable energy. The program has been cut due to buget issues within the State of Wisconsin. The program had supported cutting-edge research and development, the manufacture and production of new clean energy products, and ways to make clean energy use widespread and cost-effective. By strategically investing in the development and deployment of clean energy technologies, Wisconsin would have been able to leverage its considerable natural resources and manufacturing expertise to support new businesses and strengthen the economy. Steinbine looks forward to the posibility of this program being reinstated. |
