Steinbine Development (SBD) was established to develop a strategy for initiating all of the various processes involved in the implementation progression of hydro-electric sites; including the definition of the turbine size, procurement of the switchgear and generators, connection to the grid, obtaining engineering support, project managment, identifying qualified installation contractors, along with completing the environmental and electrical distribution permitting processes.

Steinbine Development LLC filed articles of organization with the state of Wisconsin in June, 2007. The goal of Steinbine is to install, manage, and commercialize state of the art micro and small hydro (200kW to 900kW) energy recovery systems.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, Hydro Electric power represents 8% of the nation's electricity, it is the largest renewable energy source in the United States. Installing hydroelectric turbines at existing U.S. dams that are not currently being used to generate energy could more than double present hydroelectric generation capacity. This additional energy has the potential to generate enough power to supply 28 million households with electricity, the equivalent of nearly 500 million barrels of oil per year.
